§ 17926 Fictitious Business Name Copies

Key Takeaways

  • •A 'statement' here means a paper saying you're using a fake name for your business, or stopping using it, or leaving a business that uses a fake name.
  • •You can pay $2 to get an official copy of this paper from the county clerk.
  • •This official copy is like proof that the original paper exists, was signed by the right person, and the info in it is true unless someone proves it's not.
  • •If you have this official copy, the other side has to prove it's wrong if they don't agree.

Example

You start a lemonade stand called 'Super Lemonade' but your real name is John. You file a paper with the county saying you're using 'Super Lemonade' as your business name.

Later, if someone says you never started this business, you can pay $2 to get an official copy of your paper. This copy is proof that you did start it unless they can prove you didn't.
