§ 1700 Dental Title Fraud Penalties

Key Takeaways

  • •You can't call yourself a dentist or use letters like 'D.D.S.' unless you have a real diploma from a dental school.
  • •You can't pretend to be a dentist or lie about having a dental degree or license.
  • •Dentists must show their license where patients can see it.
  • •Dentists must tell the board who works for them if asked, and they can't work while drunk or high.

Example

If someone puts a sign on their door saying 'Dr. John Smith, D.D.S.' but never went to dental school, they are breaking the law.

This person is pretending to be a dentist when they are not. They could go to jail or pay a fine.
