§ 14265 Severability Of Provisions

Key Takeaways

  • •If one part of this law is found to be invalid or doesn't apply to someone, the rest of the law still works.
  • •This law is like a recipe: if one ingredient is bad, you can still use the rest to make the dish.

Example

Imagine a law says you can't have loud parties after 10 PM and you can't play loud music in your car. But a court says the 'no loud music in your car' part is unfair.

Even though the 'no loud music in your car' part is thrown out, the 'no loud parties after 10 PM' part still counts. You can still get in trouble for having a loud party late at night.
