§ 10101 Disciplinary Action Time Limits

Key Takeaways

  • •If someone does something wrong with their license, they can be reported within 3 years.
  • •If they lie, trick someone, or break a promise, they can be reported within 1 year of the lie being found out, or within 3 years of it happening—whichever is later.
  • •No matter what, they can’t be reported after 10 years from when the bad thing happened.

Example

A doctor lies about a treatment to a patient, and the patient finds out 2 years later.

The patient can report the doctor within 1 year of finding out about the lie, even though it happened 2 years ago. But if the patient finds out after 10 years, it’s too late to report.
